We Carry Fire - Week 1
Week 1 Recap:
Living in the Light of God's Promise
Introduction:
There is something ancient and eternal about fire. It brings warmth, light, and power—but also awe and reverence. Spiritually, fire represents more than just heat or light; it reflects God's presence, His holiness, and the transformative power of His promises. As believers, we don’t simply watch the fire—we carry it. This fire fuels our lives, shaping how we live, think, and love. But what does that really mean?
The Fire We Carry Comes from a Promise:
This fire isn’t something we ignite on our own. It’s a gift from God, kindled by a promise—that whoever believes in Jesus will not be condemned but will have eternal life (John 3:16-18). For every person who places their faith in Christ, this promise is the spark that lights the fire within. It becomes a fuel source for everything we do, not out of obligation, but out of joy and confidence in what God has already declared.
Fire Has Always Meant Something Sacred:
Throughout history, fire symbolizes something divine. From the burning bush where God spoke to Moses, to the pillar of fire guiding Israel, to the flames at Pentecost—fire represents God's direct involvement with His people. Today, that fire still burns—not outside of us, but within. It's not just a metaphor. It is the inner presence of God's Spirit that purifies, refines, and ignites purpose in the lives of those who believe.
Belief Breaks Condemnation:
Everyone feels the weight of guilt, shame, or failure at some point. Some try to cover it with good deeds or religious activity. But Scripture is clear: belief in Jesus Christ is the only way to escape condemnation. Those who believe are no longer under judgment. The weight of sin is lifted, not because of personal merit, but because of God’s mercy. This truth is liberating. It's the difference between living in darkness or living in light.
Light and Darkness Cannot Coexist:
Human nature tends to hide in the shadows—literally and spiritually. We avoid exposing our brokenness, fearing judgment or rejection. But when the light of Christ enters, it pushes back the dark. Darkness loses its grip. Those who live by truth don't run from light—they run to it. Fire reveals what’s hidden, yes, but it also warms and purifies. It marks the difference between those who live in secret sin and those whose lives testify to God's transforming grace.
Living as Carriers of Fire:
To carry fire means to carry the presence and power of God. It means letting go of shame and stepping boldly into identity as sons and daughters of the King. Fire changes people—it cannot be contained. When we truly understand what God has done, our lives begin to reflect it. We speak differently. We forgive quicker. We love deeper. And we invite others into that same flame, showing them that they too can be free from condemnation and live in the light of Christ.
Conclusion: Believe and Burn Bright:
The invitation is simple, but it demands everything: believe. Believe that Jesus is the Son of God. Believe that He died and rose again. Believe that you are no longer condemned but free, saved, and loved. And when you do, you carry fire. Let that fire fuel your purpose, light up your dark places, and shine into the world around you. Don’t hide it. Let it burn bright—for your good, for others’ hope, and for the glory of God.
