29 Days to Live - Week 3

Week 3 Recap:

Leaving a Godly Legacy That Lasts

Introduction

Life is brief. Scripture reminds us that our days are numbered and our lives are but a breath (Psalm 39). If tomorrow is not promised, the question becomes urgent: What legacy am I leaving?

Every person leaves a legacy—whether good, bad, or indifferent. The real question isn’t if a legacy will be left, but what kind of legacy it will be. Is it one centered on temporary accomplishments and possessions, or one rooted in faith, love, and eternal impact?

Everyone Leaves a Legacy

Whether through words, actions, or influence, every life leaves a mark. Parents leave imprints on children, friends leave memories with friends, and coworkers leave impressions in the workplace. Some legacies bring joy and blessing; others bring pain and regret.

The truth is this: legacy is being written daily. Every decision, every action, and every word adds to the story others will tell long after we are gone.

Say the Words That Matter

One of the greatest ways to leave a godly legacy is to speak life. Too many people wait until it’s too late to say the words their loved ones needed to hear. Encouragement left unspoken and love left unsaid create regrets that can never be undone.

Proverbs reminds us, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it” (Proverbs 4:23). Words that come from a heart rooted in God’s love carry lasting weight. Simple phrases like “I love you,” “I’m proud of you,” and “I believe in you” can change the trajectory of someone’s life.

Do the Things God Calls You to Do

Legacy isn’t just about words—it’s also about obedience. Acts 20:24 says, “I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.”

Unfinished assignments—whether sharing faith with a friend, reconciling a broken relationship, or stepping into God’s calling—can leave a legacy incomplete. Doing what God asks may not always be comfortable, but it always carries eternal significance.

Live the Way God Wants You to Live

A legacy is built not just on isolated actions but on a consistent way of life. Many people hear God’s Word but continue living by personal preferences rather than convictions. Yet James 1:22 reminds us, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”

Living God’s way means prioritizing faith over comfort, people over possessions, and conviction over convenience. A life aligned with God’s Word becomes a legacy that inspires generations.

Legacy Is More Than Inheritance

An inheritance is what you leave for someone; a legacy is what you leave in someone. Possessions fade, but purpose remains. The impact of love, faith, and godly influence outlasts any earthly achievement.

Legacy is measured not in promotions or possessions but in people—how they were loved, encouraged, taught, and pointed toward Christ.

Closing

Every day is a step closer to eternity. Legacy is not something to think about later—it is being shaped right now. The question is: Will it be a legacy of temporary comfort, or a legacy of eternal impact?

Say the words that matter. Do the things God calls you to do. Live in a way that reflects Christ. In the end, people won’t remember the size of the house, the kind of car, or the bank account. They will remember the love given, the faith lived out, and the hope shared.

That is a legacy worth leaving.
