29 Days to Live - Week 2

Week 2 Recap:

What Really Matters Most

Introduction

What would change in your life if you only had 29 days left to live? That question isn’t meant to create fear—it’s meant to create focus. Scripture reminds us that life is fleeting—“a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes” (James 4:14). With time so short, our priorities matter more than ever. The choices made today echo into eternity, and Jesus points us toward what truly lasts.

The challenge is simple yet profound: Where is your treasure? The answer shapes not only this life but also eternity.

Life Is Short—So Make It Count

Psalm 39 says, “Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered and that my life is fleeing away.” Every sunrise is a reminder that time is moving forward. No one is promised tomorrow, and each moment is a gift.

When viewed through the lens of limited time, petty frustrations lose their power, and eternal priorities come into sharper focus. Living with urgency means making today count—not waiting for a someday that may never come.

Where Is Your Treasure?

Jesus teaches, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth… But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven… For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:19–21).

Treasure isn’t limited to money. It’s the sum of where time, energy, focus, and resources are directed. If the heart drifts toward temporary possessions, then life fills with things that ultimately fade. But if treasure is invested in eternal purposes—acts of love, service, generosity, and faith—those treasures last forever.

Guarding Against Materialism

Materialism constantly whispers that happiness is found in the next purchase, the bigger house, the newer car, or the latest phone. Yet Jesus warns in Luke 12:15, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”

Having nice things isn’t wrong, but when possessions define identity or control priorities, they steal attention from what truly matters. Guarding against materialism means choosing God over stuff, contentment over comparison, and purpose over possessions.

Choosing Generosity

True love always gives. “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son” (John 3:16). Love is proven through giving, and generosity becomes an overflow of a heart transformed by love.

Generosity includes more than finances. It is expressed in time, compassion, attention, and service. Everything belongs to God, and life changes when possessions are seen as tools for blessing others rather than trophies to be kept. Radical generosity reflects the character of God and leaves a legacy that outlives this world.

Focusing on What Really Matters

It’s easy to lose perspective, pouring energy into things that don’t truly matter—slow drivers, messy houses, or minor inconveniences. But in the eternal picture, those things fade away. What does matter? People matter. Relationships matter. Jesus matters.

Every conversation, every act of kindness, every step toward reconciliation, and every effort to share Christ’s love builds treasures in heaven. At the end of life, people will not remember the possessions left behind—they will remember the love shared, the faith lived out, and the impact made.

Closing

The clock is ticking. Each day draws closer to eternity. The question is: What will you do with the time you have?

Will you chase temporary treasures, or will you pursue eternal ones? Will you cling tightly to possessions, or will you live with open hands? Will you let small frustrations consume you, or will you choose to focus on people, purpose, and Christ?

Living with eternity in mind means stepping into each day with clarity and courage. And when the time comes, you can step into forever hearing the words: “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
